10 Festival Beauty Essentials

1

With less than 2 weeks until I head to V Festival at Hylands Park with one of my favourite people my attention has turned to what I need to take with me. So here’s my list of the 10 essentials that I’ll definitely have with me!

1 – Antibacterial Hand Gel – With the toilet facilities lacking and being out in the open for 2 whole days (even though I’m heading home and not camping) this is the thing I could never attend a festival without.

2 – Sleek Pout Paint – This is a festival favourite, it can be used for cheeks and lips but for me it will be used to create pretty designs, perhaps flowers for a cute festival makeup.

3 – Water – If you want to keep your skin in top condition and not be the one passed out under a tree by 3pm then you need to stay hydrated! Most festivals only allow you to take a small bottle of water into the arena with you but have taps to refill, make use of this and drink plenty of nature;s good stuff!

4 – Sunscreen – You’re outside all day, even those of us who tan are at risk in those conditions, keep your sunscreen topped up and head for shaded areas when possible.

5 – BB Cream – Save space and take a BB Cream in place of a foundation and moisturiser, a BB Cream will double up as both and stop your skin from drying out. The Body Shop All-in_one BB Cream is my favourite!

6 – Fudge Urban Sea Salt Spray – With shower facilities limited and the expectation if rain at some point there’s no point in paying out to have your hair straightened while you’re there, instead spritz in some sea salt spray for a gorgeous boho, festival look, you could add some flowers to your hair too!¬

7 – Figs & Rouge Lip Balm – The is hygienic and easy to use without a mirror, it can also be used as a cheek stain and eye shimmer. Multi-taskers are the way forward when at a festival!

8 – The Body Shop Vitamin C Face Spritz – Ideal for a quick freshen up and to keep your skin looking radiant throughout the whole weekend!

9 – Makeup wipes/ wet wipes – Don’t forget to remove your makeup in the evening and wipe your face in the morning, also a good idea for a quick wet wipe bath to stay smelling a little fresh at least!

10 – Sunglasses – Protect your eyes whilst out in the sunshine, I swear half the time you site with the sun in your eyes! Plus sunglasses will always make you look that little bit cooler. Why not select a new fun pair just for this occasion?

I hope this quick guide has been of some use to you. What are your festival must-haves?

Coola Face Mineral Sun Screen Review

8

Reviewed by Megan

After seeing our Megs sunburnt this year I knew she was the perfect person to test out this sunscreen. The one she tested was the unscented version but it is also available in rose. It was factor 20.

It’s designed especially for the face and protects against the signs of aging too. It’s also hypoallergenic and paraben free. It is water resistant for around 40 minutes so it probably isn’t the best one to use when in and out of the pool.

Megan reported back that it is quite an effort to rub in due to it’s thickness. She looked more like a snowman than a sun-kissed goddess while she waited for it to soak in. However, once it was soaked in it worked well. Megan usually prefers the convenience of spray creams but feels that may have been why she was getting burnt!

Megan has also been converted from clear sunscreens to white ones as this one has definitely protected her much better even though it is a lower SPF. Round of applause for Coola!

Yves Rocher – HYDRA VÉGÉTAL Instant Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser Review

1Reviewed by Tams

Now clearly at 24 I don’t have much in the way of wrinkles but I received this a while ago so thought I’d try it anyway, maybe it’ll prevent them appearing so soon who knows! Targeted skin care isn’t usually my thing, I generally don’t have the time to use a different product for each area of my skin. This is aimed at wrinkle-prone areas. I use it round my eye area as although I don’t have wrinkles it works really well at waking my eyes up. It perks up dark circles and fills my eyes out to a more healthy look when I look more like a zombie than a human!

My 40-something year old mother has also given it a go and reported back that it did reduce the appearance of the couple of wrinkles she has. It also provides a lovely long-lasting moisture, it feels silky and smooth all day.

It has a very natural, barely-detectable scent which I quite like, it also works well combined with the use of my ordinary moisturiser. I’d love to hear from someone older who’s tried it, did it work for you?

Deep Action Anti-Blemish Gel

blog

Recently I’ve been having more break-out’s than normal, I’m pretty sure it hormone related and there’s not a thing I can stop it happening. They just keep appearing out of nowhere. This anti-blemish gel from Superdrug has however been a little life-saver.

It’s anti-bacterial so it cleans the area around the blemish and drys it out so that it heals quicker. It boasts a 4-hour reduction in redness, perfect for when a dastardly spot appears the morning of a night out. It also contains known acne-fighting-ingredient,  salicylic acid. It totally catches that spot unawares and ninja’s it into submission.

It can be used under or over makeup and forms a layer around the affected area to stop it spreading or getting infected. I like a product that not only provides a solution but limits the damage too!

It’s also really affordable in comparison to similar products at just £2.59!

Garnier Simply Essentials – Soothing Vitamin-enriched Toner Review

1Reviewed by Tams

I’ve been using this toner for about 3 weeks now so figured it’d be a good time to let you know how I got on.

First up is the thing that drew me to try it in the first place, it has no perfume, alcohol or colourants. When it comes to skin care I like to keep it as natural as possible, my skin gets enough toxins from pollution without anything extra. The formula contains water-lily and is perfect for sensitive skin.

Sometimes, I can find that natural products don’t really work that well, however, that is not the case when it comes to this toner. It feels refreshing on the skin and doesn’t burn. According to the age-old myth – if it stings it’s working this is completely untrue. Your skin needs a little TLC and in this case no pain is a huge gain. It softly tones the skin and evens out the skin tone. It closes up the pores after you’ve cleansed, preparing the skin for moisturising.

My skin has definitely improved since I started using this, I’ve had less spots too. My skin feels nourished and wonderful. It’s also an absolute bargain at £2.99 in Superdrug.

So Spa So Good

1

Yesterday I spent a super relaxing day at Aqua Springs in Colchester, Essex with a group of fantastic ladies. Three of us were there from 10am until 5:30pm, by the end we were exhausted but, boy did I sleep well last night!

Now I didn’t book any treatments so spent my day in and out of Sauna’s, Steam rooms and Jacuzzi’s, it was bliss. With this in mind I decided to put together a quick guide on why a spa day is so good for you.

And Relax…

Firstly, it’s good to relax. At the end of a stressful few weeks it was fantastic to take time out for myself away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Relaxing is good for wellbeing, stress isn’t good for your health, skin or mind so taking some chill out time to renew has unlimited benefits.

Swimming

After each session in a Steam room or Sauna it’s important to cool down. We cooled down with a lovely swim in the cooling pool, today I ache and I can only assume it is down the swimming. Swimming is great for toning the whole body and is great exercise.

Sauna

Sauna’s have a huge range of benefits. Firstly, they improve your health and can treat a number of ailments. The heat raises your body temperature which in turn increases your circulation. This increase speeds up your body’s natural healing system. It’s great for skin disorders such as eczema and acne. It also improves the appearance of your skin, it cleanses from the inside out. You sweat out all the yuck from your pores leaving clearer, healthier skin behind. Sauna’s also help to relieve stress, the heat naturally relaxes your body and stimulates the release of endorphins leaving you calmer and happier, thanks to this you also sleep better.

Steam room

Using a Steam room is a very quick way to detoxify your whole body from all the toxins we pick up in everyday life from the air, food and substances we use, leaving you feeling healthier. It also boosts your immune system, a Steam room increases our core temperature which kills and weakens harmful microorganisms within our body awarding us with a strengthened immune system. It also helps to sweat out retained water, a benefit I was in love with yesterday, however, it is still really important to stay hydrated when using Sauna’s and Steam rooms. Of course a Steam room also relaxes you just as a Sauna does.

Salt Inhalation Room

The Salt inhalation room has all the same benefits of a Steam room with the addition that it is really great for relieving the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis and rhinitis. Regular use can also help with snoring, yes ladies it’s time to take your husband to the spa!

Hydrotherapy pool

Hydrotherapy pools are great for aches and pains, they also leave you feeling revived after. Hydrotherapy pools are not only great for general every day aches and pains caused by exercise they also help those suffering from acne, arthritis, colds, depression, headaches, stomach problems, joint, muscle, and nerve problems, sleep disorders and stress. They also assist detoxing the body and increase your metabolic rate. In addition to that they also help your immune system to run efficiently and through stimulation encourage your organs to function at an improved rate.

Jacuzzi

Jacuzzi’s are great for reliving stress and helping you to relax, I always start a spa day in the Jacuzzi. They also relive muscle and joint pain and improve circulation.

Keeping cool

There’s nothing better than diving into the ‘Cold Plunge’ or having a bucket of chilly water tipped over you after the sauna or steam room, this closes up your pores too, which stops them from being immediately re-toxified by the air.

My result

Yesterday I used all of these facilities and by the 8pm I was crashed out on the sofa, I haven’ slept that well in a very long time. My skin feels great today and I generally feel healthy and pretty good about myself. I can’t wait for the next one! It was also great to spend the day working on natural beauty rather than the products I use to cover that up.
